    Did you know?

    • Marble Bar has earned the reputation of the hottest town in Australia.  It gets its name from what was thought to be a colourful Marble Bar that crosses the Coongan River. The rock is in fact jasper.
    • In the Archean ocean, layers of iron oxides - primarily hematite and magnetite - precipitated out of seawater alongside silica. These chemical sediments settled in rhythmic layers on the ocean floor. Over time, heat and pressure from metamorphism transformed the iron-rich layers into reddish bands of hematite, while the silica layers developed into deep crimson jasper. This striking banding records one of Earth’s most profound shifts: the gradual oxygenation of the atmosphere, etched into stone as a natural barcode of deep time.
    • This outbak town was pioneered during the gold rush days in the late 1800's - it was also home to the Comet Gold Mine and the Corunna Downs Airbase.
