- Australian Green Aventurine is a type of quartz known for its green colour and sparkly appearance due to inclusions of other minerals like fuchsite.
- Green Aventurine forms when silica-rich hydrothermal fluids infiltrate fractured, weathered serpentinite rock. During this process, the original rock is replaced by quartz, and fine particles of chromium-rich fuchsite mica become trapped within the quartz matrix. The chromium content gives the stone its characteristic green color, while the alignment of the mica flakes within the quartz causes the distinctive sparkling effect known as aventurescence.
- The Marlborough region is also know for producing high quality chrysoprase, a green gemstone that is sometimes mistaken for jade and can be found in the same areas as green aventurine.
- There are other locations throughout Australia, such as the Central Queensland gemfields and Mt Davies in South Australia, that produce beautiful Green Aventurine.
